There’s this little piece of inspirational writing we’ve been tossing around in my English class,
“Some things in life actually are free.”
And we’ve been discussing what that means to us individually.
The thing is, I think that quote is 100% bullshit. You will pay for everything in life, no matter what. Whether it be something physical that you pay for with currency or trade a possession for, or something more meaningful such as love, you will make some sort of sacrifice.
When you find something or someone you love, no matter how beautifully it seems to be handed to you in a ~euphoric rainbow of happiness~, you will pay with your heart and your mind. You will become invested emotionally in something that will always be taken away from you eventually. In many ways, the things people consider to be “free” are the most grueling to pay for.
You happiness will subside.
Your loved ones will leave you.
Nothing will stay with you forever.
The more you start to care about these things, the worse it is when you finally realize the devastating truth that they will leave you lost and alone once again.
Nothing is free and you will always end up back at the side of the road. The only thing you can do is delay your inevitable fall to harsh reality. You can distract yourself and trick yourself into thinking you’ll be okay. I think that’s what we do as humans; surround ourselves in illusions of well-being.
Then again, I don’t really know anything.
